M y first experience at Decorative Arts was when I was a little girl during my studies in the Apostolado School. It was a Catholic Scholl, so I could learn many crafts techniques, about music and sing conform to growing, the same that, still today, are very helpful to me. But my first inspiration was my sister Lupi, who is a Decorative Designer, while she was practicing and those wonderful ideas she always had. My really vocation was to Design, but in 1990, I became Computer & Systems Engineer, at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra. I never put that in practice, because, I start with my sister a decorative Shop D’Sorel.
Y ears later, at 1994, because health causes, I started to learn for distraction, Dry Flowers with my beloved teacher Lilliana Camejo. Thanks God I had my health back, and encourage myself to have my first exhibition, and then learn with her, Paper Mache and Brush Strokes. For my commercial name, I choose Al’aMed, it means in Arabic language Horizons, a special place behind, and that is perfect, because is a parts of what we can find in Crafts & Fine Arts.
T hen, with Belkis Zouain, I’d learn Faux Finish, Antiquing and Gold Leaf on Ceramics. With Jayne Garrido, Antique Dolls in wood, and with Xiomara Cruz, Push Metal, Florence Art Engraving and Glass Polychrome. I had my best counselor in my dear daughter Shantall, who since a little girl follow my steps, and could go on with my exhibitions on Mothers Day and Christmas, joining all the techniques and encouraging me to go on. Then I became a part of the Society of Decorative Painting and having classes continuously with the bests teachers in Decorative Painting, and proudly hold my country flag with marvelous experiences. Here is where my international studies began. Then I completed techniques in Mexico City, in Parquetry, Wood Burning, Embossing Metal, and recently, Marroquinery, and Gold Leaf Engraving with the great teacher Magdalena Barrena, from Mercart School.
T hat was the begin of , what today is an important part of my life, because all that I’ve learned inthis wonderful word of Decorative Arts and the satisfaction we receive when we can create, I decide to share my knowledgementes and began in summer classes for teenagers on July 1995. Here born Al’aMed Fine Arts & Crafts, Home Studio and in the past ten years, we could receive large groups of people in all ages, who want to learn the great variety of techniques. At year 2000, I had the joy to be the Artistic Director from The National Artisan Center, but not for much time. There I could learn more about Dominican Crafts and be in contact with greats Artisans and teachers.
F our years ago, we developed the Artisan Painting as a career, to which we called "Painting with Culture" .Being invited, through these years, to multiple televisions programs to make demonstrations of different techniques, participation of expositions, lectures , special orders on premises for big companies, and so many beautiful experiences, the idea to have my own televising space to arrive at more people and to share my experiences through the screen was born. From November of 2003, Atelier de Arte is on air, thanks to the support of many dear people and nowadays, we counted on numerous and appreciated public that follows every Sunday to us. Also by the same date, the first branch of Al’aMed was born.
I n the 2003, I knew the great Argentine-Lebanese craftsman Gaby Haydar in Tripoli, Lebanon, with whom I learned to elaborate Soaps and Artisan Paper, and by its means we signed the First pact of Artisan Collaboration between Lebanon and my country, and I integrated myself like teacher of Embossing Metal and Textures and Relieves with Aazem Wa Saade Foundation in that magical country. At the same time, we have continued complementing our preparation with Factories of Production of Television, Computerized Graphical Design, Edition Nonlinear for Television, Communication, Techniques of Decoration and Design of Interiors, landscaping and design of Gardens, Photography, between many others, in different educative centers, always remembering my adored father when he repeated to me constantly knowledge "does not occupy space". |
